This is the first draft I have really liked since we got Shawne Merriman and co. There was a lot of underlying strategy to this draft from drafting Bosa’s teammate, Joshua Perry to drafting the 2015 MAC Defensive Player of the Year who was also a three time first-team All-MAC selection in order to bolster our LB depth. DEEP… finally! Let’s just hope we can make it through the pre-season healthy.
In addition to the Defensive additions, I like the fact that we brought in an NFL pedigree FB in Derek Watt who was Melvin Gordon’s teammate and lead blocker in college. Oh yeah, he’s JJ Watt’s brother and they will face each other this year. We also brought in a BIG offensive lineman in the 7th round, Donovan Clark. We also drafted the best TE in this year’s draft who didn’t drop a pass last year… that probably means he’ll drop several crucial passes for us this year if you believe in the “San Diego curse” which is essentially; “We have beautiful weather, great people, and awesome beer so our sports teams are doomed to ultimately fail because we can’t have everything and other cities are not blessed with our amenities so the fairness gods throw them a bone and let them have some trophies.” San Diegans ultimately come out on top in the long run even though we are usually heartbroken until the next wave of sunshine and swells come through.
Charger Eric Weddle watched from the sidelines during their recent game against the Miami Dolphins at Qualcomm Stadium. — Nelvin C. Cepeda
In unsurprising news, the Chargers’ front man, Mr. Bad Idea Pants has allowed another Charger great to finish his career with another team. Just like Junior Seau, Donnie Edwards, Rodney Harrison, Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, and more… “Better to get rid of a guy a year too early than a year too late.”
What if that extra year was the Super Bowl?
Either way, Weddle is gone and the only consistent factor that made the Chargers D average is now gone. Weddle led the team in tackles for the past decade… which is NOT a good thing you realize because he is a Free Safety.
All in all the Chargers organization is rotten from the top down. If the Chargers paid someone on their staff to come up with bad ideas everyday, that person could not even compete with the amount of bad ideas coming out of the front office brain trust. He would throw up his hands and tell them that he cannot compete with the sheer volume and intensity of their bad ideas.
Hindsight is 20/20 but San Diego and everyone else outside of the Spanos family can already see the writing on the wall; The Spanos family’s legacy in San Diego is ruined forever. The Spanos family was already on thin ice with its fanbase after years of antagonizing behavior through former GM, AJ Smith. This family just cannot get out of its own way and could probably pay someone to come up with really bad ideas and not even come close to matching these boneheads!
The Chargers are known nationally for one thing in modern history… diarrheaing all over themselves on a national stage weather it be the playoffs, a game to get in to the playoffs, the AFC Championship, the Super Bowl, or the LA Stadium Sweepstakes! These freaking idots fired the two best coaches they’ve ever had and one who is a hall-of-famer in Marty Schottenheimer. I’ll give the Spanos family credit for hiring Marty… he kicked their ass so often, they decided to hire him… until they fired him after the Chargers’ best regular season in history because a player intercepted the ball and then fumbled it…. idiot. I digress.
The Spanos family’s legacy is ruined forever. Not only did they run a beloved head coach out of town and back his nemesis who drafted Larry Fucking English(Bust) and “Bust”er Davis, but they hired Norv “Sucks a Head Coach” Turner to replace him. They passed on Troy Polamalu and AG Spanos went to fucking USC with him! These guys suck just based on the fact that they whiffed on every good USC player coming out from Pete Carrol’s program because AG is goddamned alumni! He owns an NFL team but doesn’t watch his own college team play football? Maybe if John had gone to USC, we would’ve drafted Troy, or Clay, or Brian, or Justice or never mind. Spanos is synonymous with sucks!
Fast forward to 2015/16 when these fucking rim jobs announced that they are building a stadium in Carson(Nuclear Waste Dump). These jerkoffs spent millions of dollars planning to move OUR team to LA. Like I said, you couldn’t pay someone to come up with bad ideas that come out this fast and this bad. This family actually tried to bamboozle the nation in to thinking LA gives a shit about their franchise. The hubris is probably the most annoying thing about this but it all came full circle last week when NFL owners told the Chargers to go pound San Diego Beach Sand. It was the Spanos family/Chargers diarrheaing all over themselves again on a national stage for all to see. In my personal opinion, it was a thing of beauty. Think about it for a second… What message does the NFL send to the nation if they let these knuckleheads hi-jack a civic treasure from a city that loves it and has actively fought to keep it? It says, “If you don’t build a stadium; then you lose your team.” and that is not the precedent that the NFL owners wanted to set for themselves.
Again, it was clear to everyone outside of the Spanos family but these jerks still won’t talk to the city and open negotiations. The mayor called Spanos personally and didn’t even get a return call. Look assholes, Kronkeworld won’t even open until 2019. Are you going to play in the Coliseum? I go to USC games there and if you’re bailing on the Q to go there, you’re bigger idiots than this article makes you out to be. The Chargers will fail before they even move in to their new lease agreement. The only end-game I Can see for them now is to try and leverage LA somehow and sell the team to someone who actually wants to be a hero and keep them in America’s Finest City. Beyond that, the Spanos family has to eat crow and come back to the negotiating table.
These numskulls have made so many bad decisions consecutively that eat away at San Diegan’s true values, I doubt they can ever get back in the good graces of San Diego. They would have to make double the amount of good decisions than their bad ones, which is insurmountable at this point… and win multiple Super Bowls. No one has really said it this way, but this family of fucksticks is trying to steal away our goddamned football team. Fuck these people with a splintery broom handle!
This family should be forced to sell the Chargers like that racist prick was forced to sell San Diego’s other team that was stolen; The Clippers. San Diego hates that motherfucker and we didn’t even like the Clippers. The Spanos family is already not welcome in their hometown and if they keep up their bullshit, they’re not going to be welcome in the NFL. Mark my words. Stop penalizing the fans that love this team because San Diego has rotten politicians and a corrupt city hall!
Note to the Spanos Family: You will always be remembered as the ownership that tried to steal our team and take it to LA… our goddamned rivals! For that, your legacy will never recover in San Diego or NFL Chargers history books.
“You are not big time Spanos family and therefore you do not get LA!”
Before I start this article… LARRY FUCKIN’ ENGLISH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Fuck you AJ Smith & John Spanos!
Blame it on the rain, the horrible ownership decisions regarding coaches and GM’s, or the terrible business decisions made by this family more often than a broken record… heck even a broken clock is right twice a day! The Chargers’ floundering ways have now metastasized to official NFL business ruining the Spanos’ post-season like their shitty decisions have ruined the fans’ post seasons for the past decade.
It seems pretty apparent that the NFL owners were hesitant on calling it quits on a vibrant fanbase that’s been alienated and harassed by this asshole ownership after 55 years in San Diego. Dean Spanos sat idly by while Antonio Gates was benched in a home opener after a career season so AJ Smith could say he was the boss. He did the same thing after Vincent Jackson had a career year… missed the playoffs by 1 game but Vincent missed 15 that season due to a pissing contest with AJ Smith. Spanos also let AJ Smith(Lord of No Rings) run Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, Junior Seau, Rodney Harrison, John Carney, and Donnie Edwards out of town. All of whom set records, won super bowls, or did something better once out of the Spanos’ Chargers’ clutches. Great… really stoked for New Orleans and New England on their Super Bowls while SD still has none. How’d that work out for you dean? Idiot!
When you put it to paper; JESUS! The Spanos family couldn’t try to be this bad at owning a franchise. If it weren’t for Philip Rivers, this franchise would be the Jags or Browns of the West Coast… The Jags were actually better than the Bolts this year. =/ It is just astonishing that the Chargers have fucked up sooo badly in drafts and other football business. It is NOT astonishing however that people outside of the Spano’s clown-car noticed. I am going to assume that most of these NFL owners are savvy business people where their dad did not hand them the business. This leads me to conclude that most of them realize LA is too important to the NFL to let Tommy Boy aka Dean Spanos bring his bumblin’ fumblin’ circus up north.
One could even argue that the Spanos family had been planning this shittiness so San Diego wouldn’t build them a stadium here so they could eventually move up north. The problem with that theory, is that it makes the Spanos family out to be cunning and savvy combined with having foresight. So we can write that theory off. Trust me, these people aren’t breaking the brain-bank. So at the end of the day, the NFL looked at their track record of doing meaningful & important shit in a business that revolves around “execution” and the answer was, “No thanks Chargers!”. The Spanos family has an out if San Diego fumbles going forward, but this is the NFL’s version of Bye Felicia!
With all due respect to the #NFL but do you guys ever take off your “Bad-Idea Pants”? When Belichick suggested that all plays be reviewable this off-season; who was the dipshit that said, “No, we’re not interested in getting all of the calls right. We’ll just issue an apology the next day and tell people to move on. It’s better that way and it will keep the game moving.” In response to that let me just say, “Fuck You” from SD Nation that has been Hochulied or called for “Roughing the fucking center” which was never called before or after that night and was later reviewed and found to be the incorrect call… which happens routinely.
The Detroit Lions started playing not-to-lose and we all know that a prevent defense actually prevents your team from winning so I called the loss an hour before this shitty call but that doesn’t excuse the shitty state of NFL refereeing. It’s a goddamn travesty to have these dipshits running a multi-billion dollar industry that we care about so damn poorly. I mean are they actually trying to come up with bad ideas? Who’s fucking idea was it to suspend Brady for the same amount of time as a dude that knocked out his wife on camera? Was there absolutely no one near Roger Goodell that might’ve suggested that this was a bad idea?
#NFL Management, you are obviously being run by our parents generation because you lack sincerity, ingenuity, forward thinking, and so much more. This is evident in your stupid NFL Robot that is 20 years old, your unwillingness to set up goal line and sideline cameras(dipshits – ever hear of GoPro), suspending players for smoking pot(christ you’re stupid #NFL) when it has been proven that it has medicinal properties specifically relating to recovery and head trauma… did I mention legal in several states?, the unwillingness to accept brain injuries resulting from the sport(how fucking dumb are you?), the lack of women having influence at the management level(oh you hired some window dressing after the Ray Rice incident… too little too late again you dipshits), which all leads to very poignant questions…
Did the #NFL hire people to come up with these bad ideas?
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room that NO ONE is talking about! Many of you ask daily, “Why does San Diego have to pay for the EIR when this expense is normally paid by private businesses?” Many of you may be right for businesses looking to purchase land that is not the site of a major toxic oil spill.
You know those big, rusty, white oil tanks that have been adjacent to Jack Murphy… er, Qualcomm Stadium forever? Guess what? They leaked! They didn’t just leak either… they gushed freely for decades. They were actually built in to the ground with no shielding; so gas, oil, etc. just seeped freely in to our region’s largest aquifer.
Did the city sue Big Oil? Of course they did, but Big Oil passed the buck back and forth until the courts finally said they were tasked with the cleaning bill and had to have it cleaned up by 2013. Guess what? Kinder Morgan who owns the site now decided to go back to court on this where San Diego just won an appeal a few months ago to keep the $300,000,000 clean-up law suit alive.
So at the end of the day, there could be a sizable clean up effort and cost in order to utilize the Mission Valley site for anything at all. Do you really think a private company is going to spend $2.1M on a site that is attached to a $300,000,000 clean-up price tag? No, that’s the city’s responsibility and unfortunately ours as tax payers as well.
I can assure you that if the Chargers relocate to Los Angeles, they will be dead to me and the only team I will care about in the fall and winter will be my fantasy team. Let’s be honest… the only reason San Diegans root for the Bolts and the Padres is because they are our hometown teams. It’s not like they have ever been really good consistently and the few times they tried to go the distance, you knew they would vomit all over themselves… aka lose in horribly embarrassing fashion. It’s not San Diego’s fault as most people that live here aren’t from here and they have no interest in supporting mediocrity. Can you blame them? They probably grew up somewhere on the east coast where the weather is horrible but their team was decent… maybe even good enough to win a championship once. There are no modern championships in San Diego for professional sports and most people didn’t relocate here for the sports teams… they are here for the beach and weather. So when you ask them to vote on building a stadium, they have no interest and can you blame them?
I won’t blame them for not supporting my Chargers and Padres, but if you’re going to live in this city and bitch about the costs of a new stadium then you should probably understand how revitalization projects like Horton Plaza and PetCo Park have helped transform San Diego in to America’s Finest City.
•San Diego’s redevelopment agency estimates there is $3 billion of construction underway or on the drawing board downtown, including $1.4 billion near the ballpark.
Mission Valley makes perfect sense from an Urban Planning & Development standpoint as the I-8 corridor cannot currently handle the capacity that travels through there daily and will certainly not be able to handle the new community development project with more than 500 units under construction adjacent to the 805 and Friars Road. At this point, Mission Valley is going to need a major overhaul of side streets, on ramps, off ramps, etc. to handle a moderately growing San Diego.
For those of you who don’t understand why the stadium will not work Downtown with the Convention Center, let me brake it down in laymen’s terms. The convention center is an honor student planning out their future years in advance and doing years of homework prior to the current year while the NFL is the stoner student who can barely put a schedule out before the season starts scrambling to finish the assignment before the due date. So why would the Convention Center break away from a successful business model with events planned out for years in advance; want to deal with the headache of the NFL’s schedule which only comes out a couple of months before the season. That makes no sense to the Convention Center people and they’ve done just fine with ComiCon etc., they just don’t need it and don’t want it. That’s fine by me because Mission Valley needs more help than downtown from an Urban Planner’s perspective.
Get it done in Mission Valley Chargers because if you leave San Diego, you’re dead to us and having lived in LA for 10 years, I can assure you that you’ll be dead up there too when the buzz wears off… and if you continue to be what you have been over the past 37+ years while I’ve been alive, LA will reject you because they only want Champions up there. “It is what it is.”
